Caveman Commit
Writes terse Conventional Commits messages that explain why rather than what.
Works with
What it does
- Uses Conventional Commits with type, scope, and an imperative subject under 50 characters
- Skips the body when the diff speaks for itself; adds one for reasoning, breaking changes, or issue refs
- Strips noise like "This commit does", first person, file name repetition, and AI attribution
- Generates the message only and never runs git
When to use it
Use it when agent-written commit messages are wordy or inconsistent.
How to install
- Run the command below in your terminal. Pick the agents you use (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Copilot, and more) and it installs into the right folder.

caveman-commitskill folder from the GitHub repository and copy it into your agent's skills folder, such as~/.claude/skills/or.cursor/skills/. - Ask your agent for a related task and the skill is used automatically.
